How does the Serene Pelvic Chair work?

It delivers pelvic floor therapy via electromagnetic therapy, stimulating the pelvic floor muscles and nerves using high-intensity electromagnetic fields.

The electromagnetic pulses engage the pelvic floor and induce deep pelvic floor muscle contractions. These contractions (one half hr session provides the benefit of over 10,000 traditional kegel exercises) - tighten and strengthen the pelvic floor muscle.

With the Serene Pelvic Floor chair, the organs in the pelvis will have stronger support, leading to improved control over your bladder and sexual function!

The pelvic floor therapy provided by the Serene Pelvic Chair can enhance neuro-muscular control, improving communication between your brain and your pelvic floor muscles (that mind-to-muscle connection).

The electromagnetic fields enhance circulation, aiding with tissue repair and improving muscle function.

What is urinary incontinence?

It is thought to affect over 3 million people in the UK, and it is when urine passes or leaks when you aren’t intentionally trying to pass it.

There are a few different types of urinary incontinence; the causes of which depend on the type.

Stress incontinence:

When your bladder is put under pressure for example, when coughing, exercising, sneezing, even laughing. Our pelvic floor muscles are connected to these actions.

When pelvic floor muscles have been weakened or damaged, then these actions can cause involuntary urinary incontinence or leakage.

This is because your pelvic floor muscles are not currently strong enough to support your pelvic floor organs e.g. your bladder or urethral sphincter and therefore cannot prevent urinary leakage/ incontinence.

Such weakness or damage can be a result of pregnancy, vaginal birth, and prostate surgery as treatment for prostate cancer.

Urge Incontinence:

This is the uncomfortable and urgent feeling to pass urine. This urgency often leads to urine leakage before the person can reach the toilet. Those affected can feel the need to pee excessively. It is thought to affect some 40% of women and 30% of men.

It is considered to be most commonly caused by an overactive bladder. Those affected often find they need to pee more than 8 times when they are awake and twice or more during the night whilst they sleep.

Upsettingly, for some, it leads to wetting their bed as they sleep.

An overactive bladder is when the muscles in your bladder squeeze too often, giving the sense that you need to pee before your bladder is full and also leads to your urethra relaxing and allowing urinary incontinence or leakage.

Urge incontinence can be caused by a number of things including:

  • UTI’s

  • Menopause

  • Certain medications e.g, diuretics, anti-depressants, and blood pressure medication.

  • Hysterectomy surgery

  • Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons, and Multiple Sclerosis.

  • Aging can also play a part - but that doesn’t mean it is inevitable or something that should be tolerated.

Mixed incontinence:

When a person is affected by a combination of the above.

If you are experiencing any of these types of urinary incontinence, you shouldn’t feel like you have to live with it and put up with the anxiety and dare we say, embarrassment of it.

It is treatable with the Serene Pelvic Floor Chair.

With treatment from the Serene Pelvic Floor Chair you can help your pelvic floor muscles recover and strengthen, so they can function properly to support your pelvic floor organs.
